The GDCA is being organized in conjunction with the Independent Games Festival Awards, which is a different set of honors whose nominees haven’t been named yet. Blizzard’s Overwatch and Campo Santo’s Firewatch each received five nominations. It’s also up for the Innovation Award and game of the year. Playdead’s Inside leads the standings with six nominations, including nods for best audio, design, narrative and visual art. The awards show, hosted by Double Fine Productions’ Tim Schafer, will be broadcast live during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
Today the judges have announced the competition's finalists. It’s a chance for those inside the games industry to weigh in on the work of their peers. The 17th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards (GDCA) takes place March 1.
